FlexFit Introduced as New Physical Fitness Initiative
By: Katie Norris, Deputy Health Commissioner
This week the Harrison County Health Department announced its new physical fitness initiative, FlexFit. The Harrison County Board of Health approved contracting with two local instructors to offer cardio and yoga fitness classes. Harrison County residents of any age are welcome and encouraged to attend FlexFit classes. Anyone 17 or under will need their parent or guardian to complete a waiver form. All classes are free and will last approximately one (1) hour. Class participants are encouraged to bring their own water, yoga mat, and 3lb to 5lb hand weights; however, please know hand weights are not required. The health department will have a few extra equipment items available in case someone is in need.
Developing and implementing the FlexFit program allows the health department to provide a resource for county residents to improve their overall health and well-being. Cardio and yoga are known for their stress-reducing benefits. Cardio exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters, while yoga focuses on breathing and mindfulness techniques that can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. The health department is hopeful that FlexFit will help people improve flexibility, balance, and mobility, ultimately working toward the goal of preventing injuries, improving posture, and enhancing overall physical function, especially as people age.
Cardio Fitness
Cardio Fitness will be instructed by Amber Basich. Classes will take place on Tuesdays at 5:30PM with the first class taking place on March 12th. All cardio fitness classes will be held inside the Hopedale Fire Department Social Hall at 103 Firehouse Ln. Hopedale, OH 43976.
Yoga Fitness
We encourage you to come try a class, perhaps bring a friend so you do not have to try something new alone! For help with any questions or additional information, please contact the health department at 740-942-2616.
