The Mosquito Minute: Blog Post 6
Welcome back to the Mosquito Minute!
We have received our results back from the end of July and we are happy to announce that
no mosquitoes have come back positive! We have sent in 368 mosquitoes, 283 have been
tested, and we are currently waiting on 4 pools to be tested. In this round of testing, we
discovered that we trapped a rare mosquito, Coquillettidia perturbans, that is not typically
found in our area. We only trapped a single mosquito, so it is going through a special round of
testing for a specified illness: Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Eastern Equine Encephalitis can
cause inflammation of the brain and nervous system, fever, lethargy, joint and muscle pain,
seizures, and altered mental state. We will release the results as soon as we receive them back,
but until then, remember to wear mosquito repellent and take proper precautionary measures.
